Is the Person You Met on Tinder Single? Here’s How to Find Out!

According to Gitnux, 30% of Tinder users surveyed are married. This statistic is not encouraging for most of those who hope to start a relationship with the help of one of the most popular online dating apps. If you have just met someone “special” on Tinder but are unsure if they are married or not, there are some strategies that can help you get closer to the truth.

According to Gitnux, 30% of Tinder users surveyed are married. This statistic is not encouraging for most of those who hope to start a relationship with the help of one of the most popular online dating apps. If you have just met someone "special" on Tinder but are unsure if they are married or not, there are some strategies that can help you get closer to the truth.

1) Simply ask

Sometimes the easiest way to find out if someone is married is to simply ask them. If you have doubts about the honesty of the answer, then it is time to decide whether you are willing to spend extra time investigating the person in question.

2) Carefully examine all their profile pictures on Tinder

If you have used Tinder long enough, you probably know by now that people tend to add more than one profile picture. Give a closer look at each picture to find potential hints that someone may be in a committed relationship.

For instance, while blurring the images of friends and family on a Tinder profile image is not uncommon, some pictures may reveal that the relationship between the user of interest and someone else in the image is not platonic. For example, if the people in the image are holding hands, or if the blurred person has their arm around the user’s waist in a manner that’s typically associated with romantic couples, it may mean that the two are romantically involved.

Images can say a lot, but not everything. If you are unsure about the content of an image, the best thing you can do is ask. If the photo is not recent, and the person in the image is an ex, then it might mean that there are still feelings involved, and it’s up to you to determine whether this is a problem or not.

3) Go through their social media accounts

If the person who has caught your attention provides a link to their Instagram or any other social media platform, you can check out their profile(s) to find additional information on top of what is provided on Tinder.

If there’s no link to any social media account, you may still be able to find their pages if you know their full name. In addition, note that many people have the same usernames for multiple platforms. As such, you can try finding someone’s Instagram, Facebook, or X accounts by googling their username.

4) Use a people search engine

An effective technique to find comprehensive information about someone, including their marital status, is to use a people search website. Such websites work by aggregating data from multiple sources, including public records and social media.

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Open Nuwber, a people search engine.
  2. Enter the person’s full name, phone number, email address, or address.
  3. Find the necessary details among those you will be provided.

This strategy can be especially useful if you have limited information about someone and want to confirm the accuracy of the data provided.

5) Check for mutual connection

If you discover to share mutual connections with the user of interest, you are in luck. You don’t even need to ask them about the personal life of the person you like; they are likely to reveal the information you need without knowing it.

For example, let’s say that you met someone on Tinder that you don’t know personally but have seen at your office. If the person is a coworker, then simply talk about them in a way you find appropriate with some of your colleagues until someone who knows the person will reveal the information that interests you.

6) Turn to a reverse image search

With a reverse image search, you can use someone’s photo to locate other instances where that photo appears online. For example, you might find someone’s social media profiles, websites, or even news articles if the person has been featured in any.

This search strategy is especially useful if the person you like uses the same photo across multiple platforms. Many do this, as they have a set of pictures that they deem the best ones for attracting potential date partners and use them everywhere.

7) Pay attention to conversation clues on Tinder

Some people reveal things about themselves without even realizing it. For example, someone who is married might make references to things such as family problems and responsibilities or inadvertently use “we” or “us” in contexts that suggest the possible existence of a romantic relationship.

While conversation clues can be useful, they should not be used to conclude someone’s marital status. Clues can be misinterpreted, maybe even more so if you expect to find something compromising and interpret them according to your expectations.

8) Look for inconsistencies

It is well-known that many people lie online. The reasons for that vary, and it doesn’t always mean that someone is hiding something suspicious about themselves. For instance, some people may want to look more successful or otherwise in a better position to impress potential dates.

If you do find inconsistencies in someone’s stories or details about their life, exercise additional caution. Don’t shy away from comforting people about inconsistencies and do tell them if you are bothered about a lack of honesty.

Bottom line: Always exercise caution when dealing with strangers on Tinder

If you have spent a few days or weeks talking to someone on Tinder and believe it is time to move to the next level, exercise at least the same level of caution you would with any other person you don’t know. Just because someone seems nice doesn’t mean they can’t be deceitful or even dangerous.

If you wonder whether someone is married, the first thing you could do is simply ask. If a simple no is not enough and you want to further investigate, make sure you use multiple sources of information before concluding that you are being lied to. Regardless of how you decide to use the information you gain, do your best to stay safe and protect yourself and your data from people you are not ready to trust.
