New Medical System Will Allow Clinicians to See Your Veins and Reduce Multiple Needle Sticks

Even as adults, many of us don’t care for needles and it’s frustrating for the patient and the clinician when multiple needle sticks are required to properly insert an IV or take blood samples. VeinViewer is a product developed by Christie Medical Holdings and it uses harmless near-infrared light to project an image of the patients veins in real-time.

Because nursing staff can view everything in real-time, they can also view if an IV was inserted correctly or make corrections and view the results instantaneously. Studies have shown that it can take between 1-14 injections to insert it properly so this new system would help reduce that number significantly.

Kids and adults would be happy to have less painful injections

I love that technology is not only helping us live longer but it also is helping routine procedures become less painful for patients. While VeinViewer is available in approximately 75% of the top hospitals in the country, I hope that this product or similar ones become available in all hospitals and medical labs in the near future.
