A Traffic-Stopping Act of Kindness: A Koala’s Safe Crossing of Gold Coast Highway

On a busy traffic day in Burleigh Heads, Queensland, a kind-hearted man stopped traffic to ensure the safe crossing of a koala into the safety of the forest on the other side. Will Thornton was enjoying a cup of coffee with his wife on their balcony when he spotted the koala determined to cross the bustling highway on its own. With drivers slowing down to let him pass, Will halted all traffic and waved them through when it was safe for the koala to continue its journey.

I didn’t really know what the hell I was doing,” he said during an interview with Gold Coast Bulletin. “It’s a busy stretch of road. I tried to get him across the road safely and try not to get myself hurt.”
