Of all the domesticated cat breeds, Maine Coon cats are not only the largest but arguably the most beautiful and majestic cat breeds ever. Maine Coons actually are native to the state of Maine and are the official state cat.
They are large cats weighing up to 16 pounds for females and 18 pounds for males. Their distinctive coat and facial features often get them mistaken for bobcats or lynxes. But unlike them, they are “gentle giants” and are especially playful and friendly with children which makes them perfect family cats.
