Every year, the Kentucky Music Educators Association conference has been held in Louisville, Kentucky. The Hyatt Hotel in the vibrant city of Louisville has hosted the event for several consecutive years. Because so many high schools register for the event, there is always plenty of choir singers who attend the event. Despite the significant number of participants, the atmosphere remains surprisingly serene and orderly, a testament to the discipline and camaraderie among the attendees.
As the sun sets on each day of the conference, a remarkable tradition unfolds. Each night during the conference, the Kentucky All-State Choir, a gathering of exceptional vocalists selected from the participating high schools, meets in the hotel lobby and sings the National Anthem at exactly 11 pm. Many hotel guests leave their rooms to sing and take in the incredible sight of 18 stories filled with people, all singing together.
Witnessing this breathtaking scene, where an entire building seems to come alive with the collective power of song, is an experience that leaves an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to be present. Despite the sheer numbers, the resounding harmony and the sense of purpose shared by these young singers create an astonishing atmosphere of tranquility and shared passion.

Most people would think that a hotel with 1,000 high school kids would be noisy but that isn’t the case. Contrary to the conventional expectations associated with hosting a thousand high school students, the Hyatt Hotel remains an oasis of calm throughout the duration of the conference. This anomaly can be attributed to the genuine appreciation for music and the respectful demeanor of the participants, who come together not only to enhance their musical skills but also to forge lasting connections with fellow enthusiasts.
