Imagine going to the dentist for a routine cleaning and finding out that you have a dangerous health issue that needs attention right away. For a little girl named Journee Woodard, that scenario became a reality. The quick diagnosis by her Dental Hygienist may have saved her life.
During a routine cleaning, Journee’s Dental Hygienist Rachel Stroble noticed that the white of her eyes looked yellow. She then asked the Dentist, Dr. Michael Chandler and he recommended that she get it checked immediately. After visiting the doctor soon after, they discovered that she had a grapefruit-sized tumor on her liver and pancreas.
Journee Woodward went for a dental checkup and her hygienist and dentist found her teeth were sparkling white; however, her eyes were not and appeared yellowish.
After her mother brought her to the doctor, they discovered a mass on her liver and pancreas. It required major surgery that lasted 9 hours and doctors removed a grapefruit-sized tumor from her liver.
They performed a “Whipple procedure” that removed a part of her liver, pancreas, stomach, gall bladder, and part of her intestine. The tumor was sent for a biopsy but Journee was already smiling just days after the operation.
The family received the pathology results on February 12th, 2015 and were ecstatic with the news that the tumor was non-cancerous.
Thanks to the prayers and the strength and determination of Journee, she was sent home to recover with her loving family.
We want to wish Journee a speedy recovery and if you would like to donate funds to cover her medical expenses, please visit her family’s YouCaring campaign ‘Journee’s Journey‘.
