You may have already seen chunky knit blankets made with large unspun wool rovings but did you ever want to create one yourself? Knitter Laura Birek wanted to create something awesomely gigantic with unspun wool roving she purchased and immediately thought of a giganto knit blanket.
But this is not an ordinary blanket. It is super fluffy and looks like it belongs on a giant’s bed because of the large knits created with the unspun wool. If you already know how to knit, creating this fluffy knit blanket involves using large needles created with 1 1/2″ PVC tubing and using them as your “knitting needles.”
Laura Birek wanted to create something epic with large bundles of unspun wool roving she purchased.
She had a lot of yarn and decided to make a large blanket.
She originally created “knitting needles” with broomsticks but found the gauge was too tight.
She then created her knitting needles using 1 1/2 PVC tubing and the result was exactly what she wanted. The result is a blanket with large stitches that looks super comfy and is super soft.
Softness feels like this!
Because of the large stitches, cable patterns are even more prominent.
I think her cat Magnus can’t wait to take a comfy nap on it.
But her other cat Molly also looks like she wants to sleep on it too!
Ahhh, they both enjoy it and look so warm and snuggly resting against their new Giganto knit blanket.
