Seat belts are one of the most effective safety devices in a vehicle. They are designed to protect occupants from severe injuries during a collision. It’s a proven fact that seat belts save lives but sometimes it’s difficult to get the message out.
For people who don’t wear seat belts, it’s not until they’re involved in a car accident that they realize it can reduce their chances of severe injuries but in some unfortunate instances, it may be too late. Wearing a seat belt can significantly reduce the chances of serious injury or death in a crash. It’s an essential safety measure that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
The following powerful public service announcement (PSA) created by Sussex Safer Roads Partnership in 2010 is still one of the most powerful messages on the subject. The PSA shows a father pretending to drive a car as his family watches from the sofa. As he turns to look at them, his concentration is momentarily taken from the “road,”. As he looks back to the road after being distracted, he sees some sort of peril approaching. He grimaces and turns the wheel to the left to avoid the oncoming threat, but it’s too late, and a crash occurs.
The impact is violent, and the man is thrown in his seat, his legs jolting out and kicking over a table with a bowl holding small metallic decorations. The bowl is thrown upwards, and the metal decorations shower down. Fortunately, the daughter and mother are there to restrain the father, who recovers and embraces his family.
If this seat belt PSA doesn’t get someone to buckle up every time, I don’t know what will. It’s a simple step that can make all the difference in a crash.
