A Japanese photographer named Fubirai has spent the last 5 years documenting the lives of semi-wild cats in the Fukuoka prefecture located on Kyushu Island in Japan. Unlike other cities that find stray cats to be a nuisance, the residents of this island live in harmony with the cats and share a caring relationship with them.
Being a fishing island, when fishermen return from sea, the cats are waiting in anticipation for the bountiful harvest from the sea. Unlike the abandoned fishing village of Houtouwan, this island is not creepy or mysterious at all. The island has been called Cat Heaven Island and it couldn’t be more appropriate because, for cats, it truly is heaven on earth.
