Even as adults, many of us don’t care for needles (including me!) Needle phobia is a common fear among individuals of all ages, making medical procedures that involve needles a daunting experience. The frustration is shared not only by patients but also by clinicians who strive to provide efficient and painless care. However, a groundbreaking solution called VeinViewer, a product developed by Christie Medical Holdings, uses harmless near-infrared light to project an image of the patient’s veins in real-time.
Because nursing staff can view everything in real-time, they can also consider if an IV was inserted correctly or make corrections and view the results instantaneously. Studies have shown that it can take between 1-14 injections to insert a needle properly. So, this new system would help reduce that number significantly.
Kids and adults would be happy to have less painful injections
VeinViewer is a new product that allows clinicians to view patients’ veins in real time for foolproof injections.
Some units are portable and can be used by paramedics or emergency staff.

By equipping medical professionals with advanced tools like VeinViewer, healthcare providers can elevate the standard of care they offer to patients. This technology not only streamlines procedures but also reduces the discomfort associated with multiple needle sticks. Patients can feel more at ease knowing that their clinicians have the means to locate veins accurately and minimize unnecessary pain.
I love that technology is not only helping us live longer but it also is helping routine procedures become less painful for patients. While VeinViewer is available in approximately 75% of the top hospitals in the country, I hope that this product or similar ones will become available in all hospitals and medical labs soon.
Please share the innovative VeinViewer with your friends and family.
