It’s been a very difficult time for police officers and other law enforcement members because of recent happenings in the media. Media coverage about police violence or bad behavior have led to many officers are feeling like they are being targeted; however, most American have faith in our law enforcement personnel which work every single day to keep us safe.
Some customers vistiting a local KFC restaurant in Gallipolis, Ohio were presented by a sign on their door. It invites police officers to a free meal to thank them for their service and for keeping the streets of Gallipolis safe. It’s great to see local restaurants that care such as this local McDonald’s that gave away a birthday party for a 93-year-old widower who lost his wife in 2009.
The KFC sign reads, “All uniformed police officers eat free everyday, all day.”
While this kind deed has been praised by some customers, the sign has been criticized by some customers. Some felt that other members such as first responders should also be given the same treatment. To help silence any critics, the administrators of the the Ohio Going Blue Facebook page posted a comment.
This is a positive post, but some of you can’t see the bigger picture.
As an officer, I do not go into any establishment expecting/wanting ANYTHING to be free or let alone even a discount, wether I’m in uniform or not, and I can tell you other officers feel the same way. We don’t like “special treatment”. The fact is that KFC is acknowledging law enforcement, which is why this was posted.
To those who stated that other first responders should also be acknowledged. My answer? ABSOLUTELY.
Police officers along with first responders and firefighters help keep our cities safe. This excellent initiative by a local KFC restaurant is a step in the right direction and should be commended. Please share how a KFC restaurant is taking a stand and showing their support for the police officers of Gallipolis, Ohio by paying it forward with complimentary meal with your friends and family.
